Awareness is the key

Increasing your personal awareness is probably the most important part of self-defense. An awareness of crime and violence along with an awareness of your environment are the keys to personal security. You do not have to be paranoid, simply be aware of the things that are happening around you. Be alert and use common sense to help you remain safe.

You are so right on with these comments. Not putting yourself in a dangerous situation is the first step to self defense. Not going in the back alley with some guy to buy something, not going to dark places alone, not going to the bar in the seedy part of town.

By being aware of your surroundings, you eliminate some of the danger, then, your training and any self defense products you have will have to go to work for you.
