It doesn’t matter how old it is; in fact the older it is the cooler it is. Someone recently came into Joslin’s with a shirt from the 70’s that had my dad’s picture on the front throwing a kick. It was skin tight and so old school!

Obviously we’ll have to wait and see but I admit that I already like the fact that you don’t have to go nuts on the controller to escape and apply submissions. EA is saying it’s more of a timing thing which could end up being a pretty cool feature.

The tournament ran very smoothly and I got the chance to referee some great battles on the mats. There’s a ton of strong competitors emerging from within the white and blue belt ranks which is great to see. It took me a match or two to get the mind warmed up to the task of reffing as it’s been probably 2 months since the last tourney but after that it was all good.

We had a crew of competitors at the event and two of our team members traveled to Barrie to compete in an competition that was being run on the same day. After all the action was done, we ended up taking home 3 golds and 3 Bronze medals. It’s great to see the guys rewarded for the hard work they put into their training to prepare for it all.

Many great tournaments coming up in the second half of 2010 including our annual event, the Joslin’s Canadian Open, which is being held on November 14th.

Here’s a video from the workshop showing a jump triangle attack:

To me it looked like Fedor believed that he could never be caught in Werdum’s triangle or that he could easily escape it if he had to. He just kept punching and punching himself in and out of that dangerous position.

Werdum’s legs are so long that the triangle choke is the last place you want to fall into when fighting him. When I saw Werdum fully lock the choke I wasn’t surprised to see that Fedor was unable to escape. Fabricio’s a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt champ and a strong guy! I’m sure that for him triangle choking people is as natural as Fedor’s ability to punch people in the face.

Congrats to Werdum for pulling of a great submission! I look forward to watching the rematch.

I find it weird that history repeats itself and that he is now having many of the same experiences that I had growing up with a father that was heavily involved in martial arts.

Being a good father to my kids is a big reason why I chose to stop fighting pro. Another concussion could have affected my future with them. It’s definitely not worth that type of  risk. Also, training two or three times a day leaves little time for the family and they really seem to like the fact that I’m home a lot more now.

I’d love to hear about your family? Do you have kids? A dog? An annoying mother-in law? (Answering the last one might get you in trouble)

I honestly think fighting in the UFC is way easier than fighting in the game. I got knocked out twice in like three minutes! What the #$%^?  C’mon I don’t go down that easy!

Anyways just seeing if any of you want to battle it out with me on XBox live. I guess I’d need your gamertag (throw it up as a comment) as I don’t have mine yet. I’m going to try and get it rockin tonight.

I think it was a great day that brought MMA fans, coaches, and athletes together to share their thoughts on the sport of MMA.

I was honoured to have the opportunity to be the host for the event and got the chance to introduce  the incredible line-up of speakers: MMA Connected’s “Showdown” Joe Ferraro; Louden Owen from the Fight Network; Former UFC Champ Carlos Newton; Gerald Chopik (MMA Expo Founder); Gym owner and pro trainer Shah Franco; WEC/UFC Fighter Mark Hominick and Bellator welterweight Sean Pierson.

The media was everywhere! I think I must have done twenty different interviews throughout the day.

Thanks so much to everyone who came up to say hi, take a picture or chat. It was great to see you all.

As host of the day’s activities I really want to keep things flowing smoothly. I’m really looking forward to meeting the fans that come out to support the drive to see MMA in the province of Ontario.
