The UFC 139 Pick’em Winner is…

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Man, that was a great main event fight between Henderson and Rua! Big shots, takedowns, escapes, submission attempts, displays of heart and toughness: It definitely had all the ingredients that a fight needs to be historic.

But…that wasn’t the fight everyone had placed their predictions on for the “MMA QuickStart” UFC 139 Pick’em via twitter, facebook and my blog page. I’m glad it wasn’t because no one would have won the prize because of the fight ending in decision.

The winner, who was off by only 1 min and 34 seconds from the actual time the fight ended, made his pick for the Cung Le vs. Wanderlei Silva bout via twitter:

—> michaelmurrihy: @JeffJoslin Silva/2/1:45 left.

Michael wins the entire MMA QuickStart Training Program which includes over 18 1-hour workouts, 100+ instructional videos, 12 Follow Along MP3 “Shadowfighting” Audio Files and more.

UFC 139 goes down this Saturday!

I’d like to run another pick’em contest for it but this time not for the main event fight. Instead the contest will focus on the bout between Cung Le and Wanderlei Silva.

The reason?

Because the last contest I setup –for the bout between BJ Penn and Nick Diaz– ended up without a winner because the fight went to a decision.

I really want someone to win this time and I just don’t see the Le/Silva fight going the distance.

Once again, I`ll be giving away my MMA QUICKSTART TRAINING PROGRAM to the person that can guess closest to the result of the main event fight between Cung Le and Wanderlei Silva.

Here’s all you have to do to submit your guess(es)

Pick the (winner/round/time left in round) (ie. Silva/2/2:12). Remember that it’s a 3 round fight. In the case of a decision result, no prize will be awarded so please don’t choose decision as the result.

You can submit up a guess in three different places (named below) s in the above format to increase your chances of winning.

  • One on this blog post via comment  (scroll down to comment)
  • One on the contest facebook note as a comment –> Click here
  • and another one via twitter @mmaquickstart
Good luck!

Congratulations to Team Joslin (Hamilton) competitors Joey Martin and Dolan Walker on their success at the Junior Combat Classic – Provincial Grappling Championships.

Joey took home two provincial titles by taking the gold medal in 2 divisions and Dolan fought hard for the Silver Medal.

Great to see all of their hard work on the mats pay off!

Mortal Kombat Flash Dancing!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Anytime I come across something that makes me smile or laugh I like to post it up here on the blog for you to see too. Here’s a video that still has me laughing when I think about it.

Even better is that this video has a martial arts theme to it since the people who are in it are wearing some pretty awesome Mortal Kombat costumes.

I love Liu Kang’s machine gun side kicks at 0:42 seconds in!

Check it out!

Now that’s a Cagefighter!

Check out this Halloween Costume sent to me by Jeff Hammond. Jeff somehow found himself stuck inside some chicken’s cage. Luckily he had his fighting gear on!

Would have laughed my ass off if I saw this one in person. Good job Jeff and thanks for sending it in!

I just came across this video showing the super slick defensive skills used by Floyd Mayweather throughout his boxing career.

Now some of the techniques would be dangerous to do in mixed martial arts but many of them would work very well in MMA.

Notice the head movement he used after he punches. He doesn’t wait for an opponent’s counter attack he anticipates it ahead of time and makes sure his head is not there to be hit. It’s that type of defense that frustrates, tires and saps the confidence of an opponent.

Here’s the vid:
